The Montreal Expos today acquired right-handed reliever Brad Rigby from the Kansas City Royals for right-hander Miguel Batista. The announcement was made by Expos' Vice President, General Manager, Jim Beattie.

Rigby, 26, was 0-0, 14.16 ERA (15 ER-9.1 IP) in five relief appearances with the Royals this season. The 6-6, 215 pounder was 4-6, 5.06 ERA (47 ER-83.2 IP) in 49 relief appearances with the Oakland As and Royals in 1999. He was acquired last July 31 in a four-player deal (Blake Stein & Jeff DAmico) which sent Kevin Appier to the As. He is now a combined 5-13, 4.86 ERA (94 ER-170.2 IP) in 68 relief appearances in the majors since he made his debut with Oakland in 1997.

Batista, 29, was 0-1, 14.04 ERA (13 ER-8.1 IP) in four relief appearances this season
after going 8-7, 4.88 ERA (73 ER-134.2 IP) in 39 games, 17 starts, in 1999. The right-hander is a combined 11-18, 4.81 ERA (175 ER-327.2 IP) in 116 career games since he made his debut with Pittsburgh in 1992.
