Game Story

MONTREAL (Ticker) -- Terrmel Sledge and Sun-Woo Kim are solidifying their spots on the Montreal Expos. Sledge continued his tear with a two-run homer in the first inning and Kim won for the second time in as many starts as the Expos posted a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. After batting just .102 in his first 15 games, Sledge is forcing his way into playing time for Montreal, going 12-for-23 with five RBI in his last eight. Brad Wilkerson opened the scoring with a two-run homer off St. Louis starter Matt Morris (3-3) with one out in the first. Tony Batista followed with an infield single and Sledge drove a 1-0 pitch over the right field wall. "I was looking for a pitch in my zone and I got it so I took a good swing," Sledge said. "It was like a low, top-spinning liner and I'm just glad it went out." "The first inning you give up two homers - both two-run shots - and you're battling all game," Morris said. "I'm angry with myself for not concentrating on those pitches." Kim (2-0) allowed just two runs in five innings in his first start of the season Sunday and was better in this one. He surrendered one run, seven hits and four walks in six innings. "In the first inning we scored four runs and that made me comfortable," Kim said. "I believe in myself and kept on my fastball and slider. I like starting better. If I had a choice, I would keep starting." Chad Bentz and Luis Ayala combined for two scoreless innings before Rocky Biddle worked around a two-out homer by Cole Porter in the ninth for his sixth save. The Expos won for the fourth time in five games, allowing only 13 runs during that stretch. Morris struggled from the start, allowing consecutive singles to Endy Chavez and Jose Vidro to start the game. Morris nearly escaped the jam after Orlando Cabrera bounced into a double play, but Wilkerson hit his fourth homer of the season. "It feels good to finally play from ahead to give ourselves some room," Wilkerson said. "We gave (Kim) some runs to work with and he did a great job." Kim allowed runners in every inning, allowing only an RBI single to Scott Rolen in the fourth before working out of a bases-loaded jam.
