Game Story
MELBOURNE, Florida (Ticker) -- Livan Hernandez allowed just
one hit in seven innings and Terrmel Sledge delivered a
pinch-hit, three-run homer to lead the Montreal Expos to a 9-0
rout of the Los Angeles Dodgers in a Grapefruit League game.
Pitching in his final exhibition game, Hernandez proved he is
ready to start the season, yielding only a single to Juan
Encarnacion in the fourth inning. He struck out seven and
walked three.
T.J. Tucker and Rocky Biddle each pitched an inning to complete
the three-hitter.
Carl Everett hit a solo home run in the first inning and Peter
Bergeron belted a two-run homer in the third off Dodgers starter
Odalis Perez.
Sledge blasted his homer off reliever Guillermo Mota in a
six-run seventh inning.
Earlier in the day, the Dodgers learned that reliever Paul
Shuey will miss six to eight weeks with a torn right thumb
tendon. Jose Lima is vying for a spot in the bullpen in
Shuey's absence and pitched a hitless inning. |
