JUPITER, Florida (Ticker) -- So Taguchi's RBI single in the
bottom of the 10th inning lifted the St. Louis Cardinals to a
5-4 victory over the Montreal Expos in a Grapefruit League
matchup.
With two outs and a runner on second, Taguchi smacked a base hit
up the middle off losing pitcher Jeremy Fikac, plating Kevin
Witt with the winning run. Taguchi also plated a run with a
double in the eighth.
Mike Matheny, Hector Luna and Kerry Robinson each added an RBI
for the Cardinals, while Reggie Sanders had two hits.
The triumph was St. Louis' sixth in its last seven games,
including a tie with Baltimore on Thursday.
Jason Marquis was impressive for the Cardinals, allowing just
three hits in 5 1/3 innings. Cal Eldred picked up the win by
striking out three of the four batters he faced in the top of
the 10th.
Montreal starter Livan Hernandez yielded two runs and six hits
in five innings, walking one and striking out five.
Juan Rivera drove in a pair of runs and Henry Mateo had two hits
for the Expos, who tied the game with three in the ninth off
Julian Tavarez.
