MELBOURNE, Florida (Ticker) -- Tony Batista homered and  
drove in two runs and Claudio Vargas pitched three scoreless
innings to lead the Montreal Expos to a 7-2 Grapefruit League
win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Signed to provide power after the loss of Vladimir Guerrero,
Batista hit a solo homer off Jason Simontacchi in the third
inning and added a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

Competing for the fifth spot in the rotation, Vargas allowed
just one hit, a single to Mike Matheny in the third.

Vic Pascucci added a two-run single in the seventh for Montreal.

Albert Pujols and Mike Quinn hit solo home runs for the
Cardinals, who remain winless at 0-5.
